College Football Star Ejected For The Dumbest Reason Seriously?!?

College Football Star Ejected For The Dumbest Reason

Well, Traeshon Holden sure picked an interesting way to get his name in the headlines this weekend. The Oregon Ducks wide receiver was ejected from Saturday night's game against Ohio State after what can only be described as a boneheaded move-spitting on Ohio State cornerback Davison Igbinosun. Classy move, right? The incident occurred after Holden made a 32-yard catch in the second quarter, and clips circulating on social media seem to show him spitting directly into Igbinosun's facemask in the end zone. To make matters worse, he then flashed a grin like he just pulled off some kind of brilliant play. Spoiler alert: it wasn't. Holden's antics didn't sit well with, well, just about anyone. Fans and athletes alike took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their disbelief. Sports commentator Jason Kinander said it plainly, calling it "one of the absolute dumbest things I've seen anyone do on a football field." Former Oregon star Kayvon Thibodeaux wasn't any more forgiving, tweeting a simple "Bro what?" Sometimes, less is more, and that sums it up pretty well. Soon after, Holden was ejected from the game, and ESPN reported that he didn't handle it too well. After his ejection, Holden was seen throwing his helmet to the ground and dramatically falling to his knees before heading off to the locker room. You know, just in case spitting wasn't enough to make a spectacle. At that point, the Ducks had to settle for a field goal, squeezing out a 15-14 lead. It didn't seem to derail the team too much, as Oregon narrowly escaped with a 32-31 win in what was the first-ever showdown between two top-three teams at Autzen Stadium. That's one way to make history, I suppose. It's a shame, too, because Holden was having a solid season for the Ducks, racking up 19 catches for 274 yards in the team's first five games. But this moment of madness is what people will remember now, not his stats. This isn't the kind of highlight reel any player wants to be on, especially in a game this big. At the end of the day, Oregon may have won the game, but Holden's lack of discipline left a sour taste for many. Let's hope he learns from this and comes back with a little more focus-and a lot less saliva-next time.
